Title
Challenges representing the Arctic Ocean in climate models
Abstract
While the decline in Arctic sea ice cover is among the most visible signals of climate change, the underlying Arctic Ocean has also experienced substantial freshening and warming in recent decades. Climate models generally underestimate the rate of observed sea ice loss and struggle to simulate several key oceanographic changes, particularly in the Canada Basin. In this talk, I will describe simple but informative approaches for investigating sea ice and ocean evolution that can help identify mechanisms that may be missing or poorly represented in climate models.
