Title

Perturbations in field theory: a geometric and variational framework

Abstract

We review a variational setting to deal with perturbation in field theories (and mechanics).
The framework uses variational calculus on fiber bundles. It deals with any order perturbations.
As a simple application we review the discussion about geodesics on the sphere and their stability.
We shall also discuss linearized solutions of Einstein equations, i.e, gravitational waves.
