University of Waterloo hosted August 17-21 the 27th International Symposium on Mathematical Theory of Networks and Systems (MTNS 2026), bringing together mathematicians and engineers from 6 continents working in systems theory, networks, and control. Roberto Guglielmi & Kirsten Morris of Applied Mathematics along with Stephen Smith (ECE) and John-Simpson-Porco were the organizers. The biennial conference with 170 attendees featured a rich technical program that included plenary and semi-plenary lectures and numerous presentations spanning control theory, optimization, machine learning, networked systems, robotics, and energy systems. It was wonderful to see the exchange of ideas, foster collaborations, and explore new research directions at the intersection of mathematics and engineering. The conference was supported by the Faculty of Mathematics and The Fields Institute For Research In Mathematical Sciences.
