Applied Math Alumnus wins Statistics Award

Martin Wainwright, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley who obtained a BMath in Applied Mathematics from Waterloo, has won the 2014 COPSS Presidents' Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies.

The award was given for “fundamental and groundbreaking contributions to high-dimensional statistics, graphical modeling, machine learning, optimization and algorithms covering deep and elegant mathematical analysis as well as new methodology with wide-ranging implications for numerous applications.”
