Former student wins award for thesis in Applied Math

Former PhD student Nancy Soontiens was awarded the Tertia Hughes Memorial Graduate Student Prize for her thesis, which is entitled “Stratified Flow Over Topography: Steady Nonlinear Waves, Boundary Layer Instabilities and Crater Topography”.This prize is given every year by the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) to a graduate student for “contributions of special merit”. It was awarded last week at the 48th CMOS Congress in Rimouski, Quebec.
