Friday, March 14, 2014

Applied Math PhD candidate Peter Stechlinski and recent PhD graduate Nancy Soontiens have each been awarded a prestigious NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship.

In his PhD work, Peter is studying hybrid systems with time delay, with application to modeling the spread of disease and vaccination strategies.

In her PhD work, Nancy studied wave motions in the interior of oceans and atmospheres with applications to the coastal ocean and flow over craters in the Martian atmosphere.  In December began her postdoctoral work with Susan Allen at UBC to work on a new numerical model of the Straight of Georgia that integrates simulations and measurements.
