Title
Pharmacokinetics; Processes and Mathematical Models
Abstract
Pharmacokinetics (PK) is the study of the time course of a drug (as it undergoes absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion in the human organism) through the construction and use of suitable and effective mathematical models. The main focus of PK studies is to utilize experimental data to derive meaningful parameters values for the developed models, and to hence predict: either (i) the results of future experiments or (ii) the results of a host of studies which would be too costly and time consuming to complete otherwise. I will give a very brief overview of different approaches taken in this field, and highlight some questions and problems that merit further investigation.
