Title

A Tour of the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations

Abstract

In this talk, I will provide a tour of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and the importance of the Reynolds number. The Reynolds number provides a simple measure of the relative influence of advection and diffusion within the flow. This talk will focus on the high Reynolds number regime, indicative of highly dissipative turbulent flow. Though the use of visual and mathematical examples, I will construct a basic model of turbulence highlighting the main impact that it has on a flow and finish by briefly describing some models for turbulent closure.
