Title
Noise in quantum systems and the need for quantum error correction
Abstract
Quantum computing is a promising technology that has the potential to revolutionize various fields, from cryptography to drug design. However, one of the biggest obstacles in the development of quantum computing systems is the presence of noise. Quantum systems are very sensitive to their environment, and even the slightest interaction with the external world can cause errors in quantum computations. This leads to the need for fault tolerance in quantum computation. Quantum error correction is a key component for achieving fault tolerance. In this talk, I will discuss the key challenges in the development of quantum error correcting codes compared to classical error correcting codes. I will discuss some basic quantum codes and their properties.
