Anita Layton is the Canada 150 Research Chair in Mathematical Biology and Medicine, and Professor of Applied Mathematics and Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on the development and application of mathematical models to gain insights into the physiology and pathophysiology of the mammalian kidneys. In particular, she is interested in understanding the cardiovascular benefits of SGLT 2 inhibition in diabetes and chronic kidney diseases, and in unraveling the mechanisms underlying the sex differences in blood pressure regulation. She is the Deputy Editor of the American Journal of Physiolog--Renal Physiology, and an Associate Editor of SIAM Review Book Section.
