Fields-CQAM Laboratory for Inference & Prediction
Professor Sri Namachchivaya has been working on several research topics, spread broadly across the field of "Dynamical Systems, Estimation, and Control," for the past thirty years. He is internationally renowned for his scholarly contributions to the fields of nonlinear systems, random dynamical systems, estimation and filtering theory. His research focuses on understanding the stability and bifurcations in noisy dynamical systems and developing new algorithms and tools for the collection and assimilation of data using multidisciplinary mix of approaches from asymptotic methods, modeling, statistical learning and simulations. The overall goal of his current research program is to provide students with information and tools that will enable them to solve real-world, data-centric problems. During his research career, Professor Sri Namachchivaya was a principal investigator or co-principal investigator on grants (NSF, AFOSR, ONR, DOE, EPRI and McDonald Douglas Foundation) totaling over $8 million Canadian dollars and to date, his research has resulted in 13 edited books and more than 250 journal articles, book chapters, and refereed conference papers. He has presented over 150 invited talks, including numerous keynote lectures. He has advised or co-advised 8 post-doctoral associates, 20 doctoral students, 21 thesis - master's degree students and numerous undergraduate projects.Professor Sri Namachchivaya is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award(1990), Xerox Award (1989 & 1993), ASME Outstanding Professional Service Award (2007), MSRI (2007) and Russell Severance Springer (2011) Distinguished Professorships at the University of California, Berkeley and he has been invited as a distinguished visiting professor at numerous institutions world-wide.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
