Barbara Zemskova is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. Before joining the University of Waterloo, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto and then a research associate at Oregon State University.

Her research focuses on the application of computational fluid dynamics and machine learning methods to study ocean circulation and climate. Specifically, she is interested in flow-topography interactions, internal waves, ocean turbulence, and ocean carbon storage

Research interests

  • Ocean internal waves
  • Ocean turbulence and mixing
  • Coupling of physical and biogeochemical processes in the ocean
  • Computational fluid dynamics
  • Machine learning
