September is a time of great change. Check out the trees--they are changing colour already!
Whether you are starting classes or welcoming our new cohort, the Fall term is a time of transition. Adapting to change or transition creates an internal, psychological process that impacts each of us differently. Some changes are easier to navigate than others. There are some strategies that can help ease the impact of change:
- Acknowledge the emotional impact the change is having on you or your team
- Create a change management plan
- Clear, transparent communication can help build trust and reduce anxiety
- Understanding the reasons for the change, as well as the benefits, can help
- Focus on what you can control, set realistic goals, and celebrate small wins
- Be on your own side and have your own back during challenging times
- Take ownership of your experiences and seek-out collaborations with others who can help
Ultimately, managing change is not just about implementing new systems or processes, but about guiding yourself (and others) through a journey of transformation.
