We are proud to celebrate the Black History Month this February, 2022, as we continue to reflect on our journey, history, events and actions that have shaped our collective experiences.

This is a great opportunity to acknowledge commendable efforts that are reshaping the narratives and disturbing historical truths.

As Dean of the Faculty of Environment, I would like to encourage you to join our determined commitments and initiatives geared toward making sure that we create a sustainable, just and inclusive Faculty that accepts, values and respects all persons irrespective of their race.

The Faculty of Environment will continue to engage in unit-level and program-level curriculum reviews to include decolonization, Indigeneity, inclusivity and equal opportunity for all.

Additionally, we will continue to make sure that all advertisements for faculty appointments incorporate new language on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

We are committed to mandatory equity training for all members of departmental advisory committees on appointments for faculty members.

The Faculty of Environment, its Departments/Schools, and its members, have organized several events during the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g., From Environmental Racism to Environmental Justice event) to raise awareness of and engage our community in discussions of BIPOC and social justice issues.

We are committed to remove barriers and biases that create inequality and will continue to grant all individuals equal opportunity to benefit from the system.

In all, I encourage you to join in the Black History Month celebration as we strive Together For A Sustainable Future.
