Chris
Chris Rickett (BES ’05) is a proud public servant and civic innovator with a passion for the environment and sustainability. Combining his interests in urban planning, economic development, technology, municipal infrastructure, and political economy, Chris has quickly established himself as an industry leader.

With a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario, Chris is the current Director of Municipal and Stakeholder Relations at Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. He is also co-founder of and advisor to Digital Main Street, a not-for-profit focused on assisting main street businesses with technology adoption.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chris took a six-month leave from his position at MPAC to lead the City of Toronto’s economic response to the pandemic. Chris developed a range of programs to rapidly support businesses, including taking Digital Main Street programming from a focus on the main streets of Toronto to supporting main street businesses across Canada, growing the organization from one employee to over 300. To date, the program has helped over 20,000 main street businesses launch online storefronts.

His leadership and dedication to supporting small businesses and main streets during the COVID-19 pandemic has earned Chris recognition by Toronto Life Magazine as the 8th most influential Torontonian for 2020.

Chris spends his free time serving on several boards and committees in the GTA, including the Economic Developers Council of Ontario and Municipal World Journal, supporting economic development, property assessment and taxation.
