Some trace the growth of what is expected to soon be a billion dollar business all the way back to Pac-Man, the eighties video icon that fuelled a seemingly insatiable human desire to rack up rewards and build social status through the power of play. Today, video games have morphed from a basement subculture into a sweeping global trend called gamification in which all the world’s a game and nearly every sector of the economy is becoming a player.
