At least 8.8 million people die from cancer each year around the world. Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada, accounting for 30% of all deaths. Sunday February 4th 2018 is World Cancer Day which aims to get as many people around the world as possible talking about cancer. World Cancer Day aims to save millions of preventable deaths yearly by raising awareness about the disease, and leveraging governments and individuals across the world into action. Sunday is the ideal opportunity to spread the word and to get people talking about cancer.
This year's theme is "We Can. I Can", which explores what everyone – as a collective or as individuals – can do to reduce the global burden of cancer. Think about how what you can do in your personal life, in your family, in your workplace, or in your community to reduce the burden of cancer. Think about who you can talk to in your community or where you can volunteer to learn more about how to prevent cancer.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
