Academic partnership with Hong Kong

MoU Signing Ceremony with Hong Kong PolyU & Virtual Workshop

In July 2024, UWaterloo and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) supporting the cooperation in nanotechnology research. This MoU facilitated the collaboration with the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN) and hence PolyU created the Research Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (RCNN). This Centre will foster interdisciplinary research, focusing on enhancing foundational knowledge in nanotechnology and tackling pressing societal challenges.

As part of this collaboration, the PolyU-UW RCNN Joint Virtual Workshop took place on July 15, 2024. The workshop featured key speakers from both institutions, including Professor Jianhua Hao and WIN Executive Director Sushanta Mitra (Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering), Aiping Yu (Chemical Engineering), Boxin Zhao (Chemical Engineering), Juewen Liu (Chemistry), Vassili Karanassios (Chemistry), Yimin Wu (Chemistry), and covered various topics in applied physics, chemical engineering, and environmental technology. This workshop highlighted the shared commitment to advancing nanotechnology research.

Inauguration of RCNN

The Research Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology(RCNN) has been officially established in Hong Kong by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). WIN is a strategic partner of PolyU and will participate in research collaboration under the framework of RCNN. On September 3, 2024, WIN led a delegation of Waterloo principal investigators, including Juewen Liu (Chemistry), VassiliKaranassios (Chemistry), Yimin Wu (Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering), Boxin Zhao (Chemical Engineering), and Dayan Ban (Electrical and ComputerEngineering), to attend the opening ceremony of RCNN, which was followed by research presentations.
