2025 Competition - Program Description
Based on the successful online workshop between the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN) and Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2), we are pleased to announce a Joint Seed Funding Competition. This competition is a call for funding seed projects to develop bottom-up research teams that can work towards related Horizon Europe Funding calls. The identified priority areas are:
- Health: medical technologies, mainly for oncology, neurology and infectious diseases
- Digital, Industry & Space: focusing on the digital aspects, with specific attention to “Semiconductor Technologies” for MSCA Staff Exchange Projects
- Climate, Energy and Mobility: mainly developing clean energy alternatives and remediation strategies
- Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment: mainly sensors

Program Details:
Funding Amount |
For each funded project selected, the total budget comprises 15,000 € from ICN2 (for ICN2 team) and $20,000 CAD from WIN (for WIN team). The project duration for the requested funding is six (6) months to one (1) year. |
Eligibility and Team Composition |
The team must consist of at least one member from the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) and one WIN Core member. Co-applicant(s) can be a researcher(s) from the University of Waterloo. |

Format |
Applicants should only use a standard, single-column on an 8.5” x 11” or A4 page layout. The proposal must be written using a 10 to 12-point, black-coloured font, single line spacing (six lines per inch) and with no condensed type or spacing, with a margin of no less than 2.5 centimetres (1 inch) around the page. |
