Guidelines for Nanofellowship Applications for Existing Graduate Students
Existing Students are defined as students who have already been enrolled in a graduate program administered by the Department at the University of Waterloo, and started their graduate program with courses and/or conducting research.
Application Process
The Nanofellowships competition is held annually. Applicants must hold an active graduate status (or planning to start their graduate degree), with a minimum of two terms remaining in their program, at the University of Waterloo. Applicants must satisfy the general eligibility requirements for the University of Waterloo graduate scholarships. A student can receive the Nanofellowship only once per academic program at the University of Waterloo. If a student transfers from a Master’s to a PhD program, they must wait a minimum of one year before they are eligible to apply for the fellowship again.
- Complete the Nanofellowship Application form for Existing Students through the above "Apply Now" link.
- Two letters of reference are needed for Existing Graduate Students. Please send your referees the Nanofellowship Letter of Reference form (PDF) and ensure they send the completed letter to win-offce@uwaterloo.ca before the deadline.
- All submissions must be received electronically to WIN by the deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
WIN Office will not accept any incomplete application. It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure all relevant requirements including reference letters are made available by the deadline. WIN Office will not reach out to individuals to follow-up on any incomplete submission.
Selection of recipients for the award will be made by the Nanofellowship Adjudication Committee.
Award Requirements:
The WIN Nanofellowship competition is held annually, with a Nanofellowship Award Banquet held each fall. Each recipient is required to attend this delightful event, and provide a poster presentation of their research project to showcase the excellent research in Nanotechnology conducted at UW, as well as attending one (1) of the WIN Pitches & Demos events (to be held each term). Additionally, each Nanofellowship winner is required to attend nine (9) advertised WIN Seminar Series (including Joint Seminars), and three (3) WIN Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) for that academic year. And as per Nanofellowship guidelines, awardees must have two (2) academic terms remaining in their degree program to be eligible. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in forfeiture of the award.
