Title: Improving early detection of breast cancer through infrared imaging and inverse bioheat transfer
Abstract: This talk will provide insight on the use of interdisciplinary research in the areas of inverse modelling, bioheat transfer, and infrared imaging for developing an emerging breast cancer detection technology. Additionally, this talk will go over the journey and transition from academic research to business and product development in the medical device sector.
About the speaker
Dr. Carlos Gutierrez is the Chief Imaging Scientist at BiRed Imaging, developing an innovative solution to aid breast cancer screening using infrared imaging. He works on both the technical innovation and commercialization of technology to move the company towards product development. Carlos is a recent graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY USA, where he obtained his PhD in Engineering. His research expertise is in breast cancer detection, medical and infrared imaging, bioheat transfer, and computational fluid dynamics.
