On 22 September 2023, WIN Executive Director, Sushanta Mitra, visited Sister Nivedita University (SNU) to finalize the Memorandum of Understanding to kickstart collaboration between our two institutions.
SNU is located in New Town, West Bengal, and is considered among the best universities for STEM in India by several rating organizations, and its researchers are internationally known for their expertise in materials science for medical devices, pharmaceuticals, environmental and agro-technologies. In March 2023, Dr Mitra first visited SNU as part of the Waterloo delegation to India.
This MOU will allow for collaboration in nanoscience and technology-based research activities, promote training opportunities for students and enable bilateral mobility of students, faculty and staff which will allow for introduction to new and valuable network connections in both Canada and the Indo-Pacific Regions. Specifically, as SNU builds its teaching and research capacity in materials science and nanotechnology, WIN and UW will be able to share knowledge and expertise to develop its Engineering curriculum, as well as set up nanotechnology laboratories and facilities at SNU.
The first WIN-SNU joint activities will involve research collaboration and materials characterization at WIN, host SNU faculty through the WIN Visiting Scholars Program, and host students through the Mitacs Globalink Program, within the next 12 months.
