Congratulations to three WIN members for winning the WIN-MESA+ Seed Funding Award for $75,000 each to support international joint research projects with faculty members from the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Twente, Netherlands.
This award was announced in October 2019 during the WIN-MESA+ Discovery Workshop, “New Interdisciplinary Research Opportunities to Combat Urgent Global Challenges to Health, ICT and Energy” hosted by MESA+ to support joint projects aligning with one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG). The awards are matched at €50,000 each for the MESA+ counterpart.
The award is for one year, where upon completion, all teams are to apply for large, international funding schemes such at the New Frontiers in Research Fund 2020 Horizon Global Platform and other calls sponsored by Horizon Europe program. Each awardee will also present their research findings at the end of the funding period as part of the International Symposium on Frontiers of Nanoscience & Nanotechnolgy and at the Annual WIN Board of Directors Meeting in June 2021.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
