Professor Sushanta Mitra, Executive Director of the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN), received the prestigious Hind Rattan Award (Jewel of India) from the non-resident persons of Indian origin (NRI) Welfare Society of India on February 21st. The Hind Rattan Award is one of the highest Indian diasporic awards.
“It is a great honour to be recognized by the NRI Welfare Society of India. It is a truly humbling experience,” said Dr. Mitra.
He continued by saying, “as a University of Waterloo Alumni and a member of the Indian diaspora community, I am proud to be pushing the frontiers of Science and Engineering. I look forward to continuing to strengthen the deeps ties between India and Canada.”
Professor Mitra was the founding member and the Associate Scientific Director for the Canada-India Research Centre of Excellence, IC-IMPACTS, the first bi-national Network Centres of Excellence. He research focuses on the fundamental understanding of fluid transport in micro and nano-scale confinements. Recently, he was been elected as a foreign fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, a rare distinction given only to a handful of global engineers.
