Screening for diseases is an important, and extensively used, public health tool; early detection can improve clinical outcomes and/or reduce the spread of infectious diseases, especially for diseases that have slow to develop and/or initially non-specific symptoms (e.g., AIDS, Zika, hepatitis). A major challenge in public health screening is to design screening policies that are capable of accurately classifying subjects in a large population with limited resources and imperfect tests.

Management Sciences professor Sibel Alumur Alev was recently awarded the Charles ReVelle Rising Star award at the 2017 INFORMS annual meeting in Houston, Texas.

The prestigious Rising Star award is awarded every two years to a person "who has made significant contribution to location analysis research and displays the potential to continue to do so."  Professor Alumur Alev was recognized for her research excellence in hub network design, reverse logistics, and supply chain network design.

Forty-nine Management Engineers were conferred their degrees at last Saturday’s convocation. Two students from the 2017 Management Engineering graduating class were also honoured with two of the faculty’s most prestigious awards for undergraduate students.

Anne Dawson was awarded the Alumni Gold Medal, which is given to one graduating student from each faculty. In the case of Engineering, this award is based on both outstanding academic performance and contributions to the faculty.
