Part of Canada's largest engineering school, the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering department at the University of Waterloo is home to nearly 1600 undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff.

  1. Oct. 9, 2019OMAC Presents $5,000 Grant to University of Waterloo Mechatronics Lab

    OMAC, the organization for machine automation and control, presented William Melek and Soo Jeon with the cheque at PACK EXPO Las Vegas. 

    The Grant will support ongoing research in mechatronic automation in manufacturing.

    Joshuo Lobo of Stabilo Medical and Michael Philips of Vena Medical win the ONtrepreneurs awards

    The ONtrepreneurs program supports start-ups to commercialize brain-related technologies and improve brain health.

    Joshua Lobo: Stabilo Medical is developing a smart vest that allows stroke patients to exercise safely and properly in the absence of a therapist, drastically improving the rate and level of stroke recovery.

  3. Sep. 19, 2019Two ME capstone teams take home $50k each at the 25th Velocity Fund Pitch competition
    Winning teams

    At the first Toronto hosted Velocity Fund Pitch Competition on September 19th 2019, Watfly and Stacktronic win big for their early-stage startups.   Ten finalists were a part of the competition. 

    Stacktronic: developing a scalable, flexible, and truly modular battery platform for electric vehicles.
