One digital flyer company with deep roots at Waterloo Engineering has joined forces with another in a deal announced this week.
Flipp, which was launched in 2007 by four friends and computer engineering graduates, acquired Kitchener-based reebee, which was founded by two mechatronics engineering graduates in 2012, for an undisclosed amount.
The two companies, the largest in their space in Canada, provide similar apps to help shoppers browse online for retail discounts and search for local stores and products.
'Next logical phase'
Toronto-based Flipp was founded by David Au-Yeung, Matthew Cheung, David Meyers and Wehuns Tan, who all graduated from Waterloo Engineering in 2004.
reebee was launched by Michal Martyniak and Tobiasz Dankiewicz.
The two co-founders and about 80 employees will stay on as Flipp retains the reebee brand and its Kitchener office.
“Joining forces with Flipp was the next logical phase in our journey to support shoppers, retailers and brands,” Dankiewicz said in a media release.
