A list of scholarships aimed at Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering students is shown below. Other scholarships are available, however, that are based on a variety of factors such as participation in varsity athletics, co-op proficiency, and financial need. In many cases, extra-curricular activities in addition to marks are used to select award winners. If you wish to be considered for or apply for one of these awards and would like to help the department support your application for an award, please give your undergraduate student advisor a copy of your most up-to-date resume. You should make sure that you include in your resume all noteworthy extra-curricular activities and awards that you have received.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)-Northern Alberta Design Awards

Six awards, three valued at up to $500 each and three valued at up to $250 each, are to be presented annually to outstanding fourth-year design project teams in the department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. Four Mechanical Engineering teams (two from each section) and two Mechatronics Engineering teams will be chosen; no application is required. The prize money will be divided equally among the winning team members.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)-Northern Alberta Student Award

Awards, valued at a minimum of $1,000 each, are presented annually to full-time students enrolled in first-, second-, third- or fourth-year in Mechanical Engineering. To be eligible, students must have a demonstrated financial need and a minimum overall average of 70%. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate service to the community and student section involvement in the American Society or Mechanical Engineers (ASME) or to the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (CSME).

Arthur F. Church Mechanical Engineering Scholarships

Three scholarships, valued at up to $1,000 each, are presented annually to outstanding students in each of second-, third-, and fourth-year in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering who are in the top 10% of the class, can demonstrate a significant involvement in extracurricular activities and have an above average work term performance. These scholarships are made possible by a donation from Mr. Arthur Church, BASc '76 Mechanical Engineering.

Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering Gold Medal

The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering provides a gold medal and certificate to be presented to a graduating student in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in Mechanical Engineering.

Cooper Standard Automotive Award

Three awards, valued at up to $1,500 each, have been established by Cooper Standard Automotive, to recognize academic performance, demonstrated leadership abilities and financial need among students in the Faculty of Engineering. Full-time students in Year 1 or above who have achieved an overall average of 75% or greater and who have a demonstrated financial need are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to students studying in the Chemical, Mechanical or Systems Design Engineering programs and to students who live in or come from the areas of: Perth County, Huron County or the Regional Municipality of Halton. Students who have an interest in manufacturing and/or process engineering as they relate to the automotive industry are encouraged to apply.

CWB Welding Foundation Award

One award, valued at $5,000, will be provided annually to a full-time undergraduate students enrolled in Year Four of the Mechanical Engineering program who is pursing the Welding and Joining Specialization. Selection is based on academic achievement (minimum 75% cumulative average) and demonstrated intent to pursue a career in the welding and fabricating industry. Interested students should submit an application by October 1 each year. This fund is made possible by a donation from the CWB Welding Foundation.

CWB Welding Foundation Award for Women

Fluor Canada Scholarship

A scholarship, valued at $2,500, will be awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Year Three of Chemical, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering on the basis of academic achievement (minimum 80%) at the end of Year Two. This fund is made possible by a donation from Fluor Canada.

Forging Industry Association Award

One award, valued at up to $750, will be provided annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Year Three of the Mechanical Engineering program who has completed ME 340 - Manufacturing Processes. Selection is based on academic excellence (minimum 75% cumulative average) and demonstrated interest in the forging industry. These awards are limited to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Interested students should submit an application by October 1.

GHL Consultants 4th Year Fire Safety Award

An award valued at $2,000 is provided annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the 4th year undergraduate Fire Safety Engineering course in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. Selection is based on academic achievement (minimum 80% cumulative average) and demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the area of fire safety engineering. Interested students should submit an application by February 1. This fund is made possible by a donation from GHL Consultants Ltd.

Hatch Scholarship

Up to three awards, valued at $4,000 each, will be awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in Year Two, Three, or Four in Chemical, Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering on the basis of academic excellence (minimum 80% cumulative average), active participation/leadership in extracurricular or volunteer activities, interest in pursuing a consulting-type career, and strong communication skills. Hatch may also offer the scholarship recipients consideration for a work-term position. Interested students should submit an application by October 1. Past recipients are eligible to apply in future years. This fund is made possible by a donation from Hatch, a leading global consulting, engineering, technologies, information systems, and project and construction management organization.

Jensen Hughes 4th Year Fire Safety Award

An award, valued at $2,000, is provided annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Year Four in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering. Selection is based on academic achievement (minimum 80% cumulative average) combined with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the area of fire safety engineering which may include prior work or volunteer experiences. Interested students should submit an application by February 1. This fund is made possible by a donation from Jensen Hughes Inc.

John Deere Limited Scholarship

A scholarship, valued at $2,000, is available to an outstanding student entering fourth year of Mechanical Engineering who has an interest in manufacturing and/or product design. Interested students should apply in the 3B term.

Morgan Champness Memorial Awards

Two awards, valued at up to $100 each, are given to fourth-year Mechanical Engineering students who demonstrate outstanding leadership in extracurricular activities and also have the ability to effectively communicate engineering concepts to their classmates and professors.

Ontario Power Generation Engineering Award

Ontario Power Generation provides one award valued at $2,400 to undergraduate students entering Year Two of Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical or Software Engineering. In support of employment equity, eligible candidates will be women, aboriginal (Native) Canadians, persons with disabilities or visible minorities. Students will have demonstrated strong communication skills, leadership skills, involvement in extracurricular activities and will have achieved a minimum 75% average in first year. Interested students should apply during their 1B term. The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada upon graduation.

Richard (Rick) Matzeg Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship, valued at up to $800, is to be awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in Year Three or Four of Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering who has achieved a minimum overall average of 80% and who has demonstrated his/her leadership potential through extracurricular involvement and/or volunteer activities. Preference will be given to students who have an interest in materials engineering. Interested students enrolled in 2B, 3A, 3B or 4A are invited to apply. This fund is made possible by memorial donations from family, friends and colleagues of Richard Matzeg (BASc. 1980, MASc. 1984) who demonstrated an abiding interest and concern for education and the engineering profession throughout his lifetime.

Sandford Fleming Foundation (SFF) Award for Academic Excellence

The Sandford Fleming Foundation (SFF) has established fifteen awards for graduating students in each of the following Engineering programs: Chemical (2), Civil (1), Electrical and Computer (3), Environmental (1), Geological (1), Management (1), Mechanical (2), Mechatronics (1), Nanotechnology (1), Software (1), and Systems Design (1). In each program, the award is presented to the student with the best academic record in the last six academic terms of their undergraduate program.

Sandford Fleming Foundation (SFF) Award for Co-operative Proficiency

The Sandford Fleming Foundation (SFF) has established fifteen awards for graduating students in each of the following Engineering streams programs: Architectural Engineering (1), Biomedical (1), Chemical (2), Civil (1), Electrical and Computer (3), Environmental (1), Geological (1), Management (1), Mechanical (2), Mechatronics (1), Nanotechnology (1), Software (1), and Systems Design (1). In each program, the award is presented based on outstanding overall performance in both the work-term experience and the academic program of Co-operative Engineering education.
