Fourth-year mechanical engineering students Jag Dhillon, Saad Haq, Tony Lee and Lucas Tang’s entry into the 2021 Canadian Engineering Competition was so innovative that the organizing committee were inclined to create a new award category, called the inaugural research and entrepreneurship award, with our four MME students becoming the very first winners of this category.
A category with the same name as the award will be part of next year’s competition.
The students, known as Team Nashwaak at the competition, developed a pair of light therapy smart glasses to help the user fall asleep. It was discovered that the thin film optical technology in these glasses not only relieves sleeping disorders but also emotional stresses, both of which are common problems during the global pandemic and throughout Canadian winters.
The glasses are expected to be available by the end of 2021. Way to go Team Nashwaak!
