Prof Michael Worswick recognized as an automotive and steel industries leader

Michael Worswick, engineering professor in Mechanical Mechatronics Engineering at University of Waterloo, was recognized as one of thirty-six individuals receiving the Award of Excellence during Tech Day 2020. He was the only recipient of the Key Collaborator Category.

The award, is given by steel producing companies and automakers and sponsored by the Auto/Steel Partnership on (A/SP).

Award selections were based on A/SP project work conducted over the past year and voted on by the Joint Policy Council of the Partnership. Criteria included demonstrating technical expertise necessary to execute or significantly contribute to project results with excellence and on time.

About Michael Worswick:

Michael Worswick is a Professor in the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering department and holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Light Weight Materials  Under Extreme Deformation: Forming and Impact. His research activities involve forming high strain rate material behavior and structural crashworthiness for automotive manufacturing. Professor Worswick is also co-Principal Investigator for the $46.5M "Initiative for Automotive Manufacturing Innovation", a joint initiative with McMaster University. He was the founding Executive Director of WatCAR, the Waterloo Centre for Automotive Research, and was also elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineers in 2010.

Members of the Partnership leverage shared research in a pre-competitive environment as they work together to identify industrial solutions. Project teams within the Partnership conduct real-time studies in vehicle design applications using steel.
