Two MME students have received the annual Paul-Niessen Teck Award, established in memory of distinguished professor Paul Niessen from the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. The distinction is awarded to students who demonstrate leadership and skill in materials science and manufacturing within the department.

The two awardees for 2025 are:

Adunni Oginni, a master’s graduand, worked on water-leak sensors under the supervision of Professor Norman Zhou.

For Adunni, the award holds special meaning. She says, “Receiving the Paul Niessen-Teck Award is a meaningful milestone in my academic journey. It recognizes the dedication I have invested in my studies and research, and I am deeply grateful for the mentorship, support, and inspiring environment provided by the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Department community.”

Janelle Faul, another master’s student working on cast aluminum alloys, is supervised by professors Dr. Michael Benoit and Dr. Carolyn Hansson.

On her award win, Janelle is grateful. She notes, “I greatly admire the impactful work done by Professor Niessen, previous award recipients, and my fellow 2025 recipient. Being recognized alongside such distinguished scholars is a great honour, reaffirming the value of my work and strengthening my drive to advance my abilities and leadership in materials and manufacturing research.”

Congratulations, Adunni and Janelle!
