Entrance awards

Each November, eligible students entering the PharmD program the following January are invited by Student Awards and Financial Aid to apply for various entrance awards. Students must have applied for OSAP or any other government student loan. Those assessed with financial need who do not receive an award will be assessed for a University of Waterloo Full-Time Bursary.

Awards

Azita Darabian Memorial Award

Azita Darabian was a pharmacist and an avid runner. She was passionate about her work in community pharmacy in BC. Her family created this award in her memory to recognize exceptional students and encourage them to actively engage in their community as they pursue their pharmacy education.

David & Christine Edwards Scholarship

A scholarship, valued at up to $1,600, is awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate student entering first year in the School of Pharmacy on the basis of academic excellence and involvement in extracurricular activities. This fund is made possible by a donation from David J. Edwards, former Hallman Director, School of Pharmacy and Christine Edwards.

Frank & Juliana Wong Scholarship

One or more scholarship(s), valued at $4,000, are awarded annually to an outstanding student(s) entering the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo, who demonstrates financial need. This fund is made possible by a generous gift from Dr. Frank and Mrs. Juliana Wong. As residents of the region, and with Frank a practising family physician, they were motivated by their desire to promote and develop local pharmaceutical and health care.

Klaus Woerner Memorial Award

In 2005, family, friends and colleagues of Klaus Woerner established a fund for outstanding students entering the School of Pharmacy. These gifts were generously matched by the provincial government’s Ontario Student Opportunities Trust Fund (OSOTF). Several awards, valued at approximately $4,000 each, will be provided to students based on a combination of admission marks and financial need.

The Student Awards & Financial Aid Office administers numerous undergraduate and graduate bursary funds. Bursaries are based primarily on financial need but may include other selection criteria such as extracurricular involvement, leadership, etc.

If you have not been assessed by the University of Waterloo System assigned bursary process and you find yourself in, or anticipate that you will have, financial difficulty during your study term, you may apply for a University of Waterloo full-time bursary.
