Nicholas Cheng (MSc in Pharmacy in progress) won the Winter 2023 Social Impact Fund Grand Prize for his project Entomatia, which uses food waste as feed for mealworms to extract a serum to replace fetal bovine serum (FBS).

Since 2015 Waterloo Pharmacy and University of Toronto (UofT) Pharmacy have gone head to head in an annual Soccer Cup. This year, after a tie game of 4:4, Waterloo won in the penalty shootouts.

Kim Chvala (BSc’12, PharmD’18), a pharmacist at the New Vision Family Health Team, appreciates the opportunity to give some of herself back to Waterloo Pharmacy every year as a PharmD interviewer and clinical rotations preceptor.

For the last five years, staff and faculty at the Waterloo School of Pharmacy have been participating in the School's annual grounds clean-up. A lot of waste makes its way into local waterways and environmentally sensitive areas, causing pollution. The annual clean-up is an opportunity to help reduce those negative impacts on the environment.

Connecting through volunteer work

Waterloo School of Pharmacy recognizes alum volunteer during National Volunteer Week. Helping to develop future pharmacists plays an important role in Puja Sharma’s (PharmD ’15) life. She is a pharmacist at Baxter CIVA Pharmacy Services and first applied to be a PharmD interviewer during her last two years at Waterloo Pharmacy.

Giving back through volunteering

Waterloo School of Pharmacy recognizes volunteers during National Volunteer Week. Vivian Ng (BSc Pharmacy ’05) has been volunteering for over 10 years as a PharmD interviewer at Waterloo Pharmacy since the program’s inception. She works jointly at Grand River Hospital (GRH) and St Mary’s General Hospital (SMGH) in the Integrated Clinical Pharmacy Lead Informatics Specialist role.

Waterloo Pharmacy student co-op work term eye-opening experience. Blair McCullough (Rx2024) was attracted to the Waterloo School of Pharmacy program because of its innovative co-op program and in particular the opportunity to work with Indigenous Peoples.

Every March since 2016, students from Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy have been volunteering and visiting Region of Waterloo schools to educate the younger generation on what pharmacists do during Pharmacy Appreciation Month (PAM).
