The School of Pharmacy offers PharmD students a range of experiential-learning opportunities over the duration of its academic program — from community service opportunities in which students choose ways to contribute to the work of social service organizations, to co-operative education work terms during the first three years of the program, to patient care rotations that take place during the fourth year of study (see timeline below).
The fourth-year patient care rotations are the capstone of the PharmD program, an entry-to-practice program that provides students with advanced clinical training to prepare them for an expanded role in patient care.
The PharmD program provides students with three eight-week direct patient care rotations that occur during the last six months of the program.
The School of Pharmacy's patient care rotations use a community of practice model that encourages integration of students into various regions across the province of Ontario.
This model encompasses 14 regions across Ontario. Each community of practice in a region will be led by a Regional Clinical Coordinator who is locally based.
Students are assessed according to the educational outcomes approved by the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC) and the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) competencies.
