Course Selection for 3A

Course selection period

Winter 2026's course selection period is Sep 19-29. Course selection is not first come first served so you may log in at any time to choose your courses during the course selection period.

Why should you participate in course selection?

Students are strongly encouraged to participate in this course selection process, so that the School has a sense of the demand for various electives for its planning purposes. Those who do not participate are at much greater risk of not being able to take their electives of choice (either due to full course capacity or cancellation of courses due to insufficient demand).

Independent Study Courses: PHARM 400 & PHARM 401

Overview

Independent study courses allow students to work closely with a pharmacy faculty supervisor on a focused project. Students must arrange supervision and receive approval before the start of term to be enroled.

Enrolment requirements

Students must submit a completed and signed Independent Study Supervisor Agreement before the start of term. The form must include:

  • Project title
  • Brief project description and methods
  • List of expected milestones and/or outcomes

Students cannot self‑enrol in PHARM 400 or PHARM 401.

Enrolment process

  1. Contact a pharmacy faculty member before the term begins to confirm supervision.
  2. Complete and sign the Independent Study Agreement Form with your supervisor.
  3. Your supervisor submits the signed form to the course coordinator (Dr. Roderick Slavcev) for approval.
  4. Once approved, the course coordinator forwards the form to the Pharmacy Advisors, who will process enrolment in Quest.

Course selection tips

When participating in course selection, you may:

  • Enrol in two electives and indicate on your form which one should be dropped once your independent study enrolment is processed, or
  • Enrol in one elective only and wait for your PHARM 400 or PHARM 401 enrolment to be added by Pharmacy Advisors.

Time commitment

An independent study course typically requires approximately 6-8 hours per week over a 12‑week term. Students and supervisors should confirm expectations for workload and meeting frequency at the outset of the project.

PHARM 400 vs. PHARM 401

Both courses are similar in structure but differ in focus and final output (see course descriptions for full details):

  • PHARM 400: Primarily literature‑ or data‑based research
  • PHARM 401: Primarily experiential or practice‑focused learning

Both courses may take place in similar settings and may be supervised in similar ways.
