Course Selection for 3A

Course selection period

Winter 2026's course selection period is Sep 19-29. Course selection is not first come first served so you may log in at any time to choose your courses during the course selection period.

Why should you participate in course selection?

Students are strongly encouraged to participate in this course selection process, so that the School has a sense of the demand for various electives for its planning purposes. Those who do not participate are at much greater risk of not being able to take their electives of choice (either due to full course capacity or cancellation of courses due to insufficient demand).

Independent Study Courses: PHARM 400 & PHARM 401

Independent study course requirements:

Students MUST submit a completed and SIGNED Independent Study Agreement Form before the start of term to complete registration. This should include the project title, brief description of the project and methods, and a list of expected milestones/outcomes. Students are highly encouraged to contact pharmacy faculty before the term starts to explore research opportunities. It is important to clearly discuss expectations with your supervisor as they are involved in the assessment of your work/project.

Enrolment:

You cannot self-enrol in these courses. The following approval process occurs:

  • Student completes Independent Study Agreement Form
  • Supervisor approves form
  • Course Coordinator approves form (Dr. Colleen Maxwell)
  • Course Coordinator requests that Becky Ewan enrols the student in Quest.

NOTE: when participating in course selection, you can choose two electives and then specify which one you would like to drop on your form OR you may just choose one course during course selection and wait for your PHARM 400 or PHARM 401 enrolment to be processed by Becky Ewan.

Commitment expectations:

A 401 Level Independent study typically requires 8 hours per week during a 12-week term. Students and supervisor should have a clear discussion of expectations regarding the student time commitment to their projects.

What is the difference between PHARM 400 and PHARM 401?

Both of these are very similar except for the types of activities and final output (refer to course descriptions). PHARM 400 is more literature/data-based research, while PHARM 401 is more experiential. Both can happen in similar locations and be similarly supervised
