In recognition of exceptional service, RUC receives nominations each year for the Service Award (typically presented once per year). The adjudication committee will seek to ensure that the full range of service provided by regular faculty is recognized in its selection.

2026: Dr. Jeff Wilson
Dr. Jeff Wilson, Professor in the Renison School of Social Sciences and Humanities, is being recognized with Renison’s Faculty Award in Service in celebration of his exceptional, sustained, and high-impact contributions to academic leadership, governance, and program development. Over many years, Dr. Wilson has demonstrated remarkable breadth and depth of service across Renison, the University of Waterloo, and his academic discipline. His leadership roles have included serving as RCS Associate Chair, Graduate and Undergraduate Program Coordinator, an elected member of the Renison Board of Governors, a long-standing participant in Renison’s Academic Council, and a member of numerous standing and ad hoc committees. His service is characterized by consistent engagement, reliability, and a readiness to take on complex and demanding responsibilities. A hallmark of Dr. Wilson’s service has been his leadership of the reaccreditation of the UW–WLU joint doctoral program in Religious Studies. Through extensive consultation, thoughtful consensus-building, and strong institutional advocacy, he helped modernize the PhD in Religion, Culture, and Society to better reflect contemporary scholarship and academic career pathways. Guided by diplomacy and vision, Dr. Wilson championed a revised doctoral program that will benefit students, faculty, and partner institutions for years to come. Dr. Wilson’s service exemplifies commitment beyond normal expectations and has had a significant and lasting impact on his academic unit, Renison University College, and the broader University of Waterloo community.
