Waterloo Centre for Taxation in a Global Economy
Annual Report 2026
Overview of the Centre
The Waterloo Centre for Taxation in a Global Economy (Tax Centre) was officially launched in 2014. The Centre presently has five core supporters of its work: Canadian Tax Foundation, Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The Tax Centre advances tax research and policy by supporting and disseminating academic research, connecting Canadian and global tax researchers, and organizing tax-focused symposia and knowledge-sharing activities.
The Tax Centre’s education mandate is to raise the standard of tax education in Canada. It prepares future tax professionals by identifying key skills required in practice and supporting curriculum development, while also promoting effective pedagogy and strengthening collaboration among educators through conferences and regular engagement.

The Waterloo Centre for Taxation in a Global Economy is more than just a Tax Centre – it is a community that connects faculty, students, practitioners and other stakeholders in a love for tax. If an “I love Tax” slogan seems strange to you, I encourage you to read our report and plan to engage with our community in the many activities we have available. From our Young Tax Professional events to our conferences and workshops for research, education and practice – and so much more – I ask: what’s not to love?
– Dr. Andy Bauer, Director
