The Faculty of Science is pleased to welcome Schulich Leader Scholar Noah Sonser to the University of Waterloo this fall. The Schulich Leader Scholarship is one of Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate awards, given annually to only 100 high school students nationwide. It recognizes entrepreneurial-minded graduates pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) programs at select Canadian universities.
Sonser's entrepreneurial spirit was evident during high school, where he created a tutoring program to support students in their STEM classes four days a week after school. Eager to take his passion for science further, he was drawn to the University of Waterloo for its highly regarded physics program and renowned co-op opportunities. “My high school physics teacher shared how incredible his co-op experiences were while he was a student at Waterloo, and that inspired me to apply,” says Sonser. “I am also excited about getting involved in campus life, joining clubs, and exploring the community!”
Sonser’s passion for physics started early, fueled by countless hours spent watching YouTube videos and documentaries on the subject. For years, he dreamed of becoming an astronaut. Now, as he begins his first term in Mathematical Physics, he’s eager to dive into statistical physics and explore how it can be used to predict the weather.
