Jagdeep - Biomedical Sciences

Science Ambassador
Jagdeep

Program: Biomedical Sciences

Year: 4

Stream of study: Regular

Pronouns: She/Her

Career goal: Medicine

How I get involved: I am currently working at the hospital to aid patients that are facing cognitive decline, delirium and dementia. Since my first year I have also been a peer-support mentor at the Women’s Center (located 3104 in SLC). I've also been a general member at the Pre-Med Club and have also been an Orientation Leader. Last year I was a Science Ambassador and this year I have decided to become a Science Ambassador Leader and I'm really excited to see what this year holds for me!

Why I love my program

Reflecting on the last three years and now entering my last year while being enrolled in Biomedical Sciences, I wouldn't change a thing. I love my program as it allows me to gain a strong foundation in science and allows me to take a wide range of courses that widen my choices for post-grad selection in the medical field (medical school, optometry school, dentistry school e.t.c). This program also allows me to have a free selection on the electives I want to take, which helps me balance between the courses I need to take for my future career, but also take electives that are of my personal interest. Next, I've had a lot of hands on experience by taking multiple labs that vary from cool chemistry experiments (synthesis of benzoic acid using a Grignard reagent) to critical dissections like a cow's eye (BIOL 201 for anyone interested).

Why University of Waterloo?

I chose to come to the University of Waterloo, as it checked of all my criteria’s for an environment I felt safe and welcomed in. There are multiple faculties and buildings around campus, which gave me a gist of the endless amount of opportunities/courses/clubs that are present, allowing me to explore my interests.
