Rahaf - Biomedical Sciences

Science Ambassador
Rahaf

Program: Biomedical Sciences and I am planning on completing a minor in Applied Language Studies.

Year: 2

Stream of study: Regular

Pronouns: She/Her

Career goal: My goal is to attend medical school after my undergraduate degree and become a doctor working in either internal medicine, psychiatry, or surgery.

How I get involved: On campus, I attend many club events for clubs such as BMSA and UW-Premed, I often participate in the Conversation Partner Program run by Renison College (a great way to connect with people from other cultures!), I volunteered in the Spafford Neurobiology Lab earlier in the summer, and this term I am a teaching assistant for BIOL 130L (Introduction to Cell Biology Lab).

Why I love my program

The Biomedical Sciences program is incredibly flexible allowing you to mold it to what you plan on doing after undergrad. This program effectively prepares you for tests you need for medical school by requiring courses that cover all basic concepts needed, but it can also be changed if your plans are dentistry, optometry, and so much more! In this program, you'll meet pre-meds, pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, and other kinds of people preparing for all kinds of careers. The Biomedical Sciences program also gives you a lot of opportunities to study interests that have nothing to do with science by giving you electives every term from first year! With all these electives, I am planning on completing a minor in applied language studies. This program also allows you to complete a 499 thesis project in your 4th year which gives you invaluable research skills and allows you to work directly under a professor/researcher doing research at the university!

Why University of Waterloo?

Waterloo has great science programs and opportunities for science students to get involved and grow their network, skillset, and so much more!
