The A-Zed of Audio

Even if you never saw it live, the image of Apple's famous 1984 Superbowl ad is probably easier to bring to mind than Apple execs could ever have hoped for, 30 years ago: rows upon rows of bleak, soulless automata listening to a harrowing speech by some Big Brother-esque dictator on a giant screen. Style

The style seed was probably first widely planted with Apple using white housing for its earbud cables. For the first time on a massive scale, a person's headphones became a fashion accessory – at least suggesting they had the tremendous fashion to own an iPod. If the seeds were planted by Apple, then the hydroponic factory farms were built by Beats, whose designers were probably inspired by Skittles as much as they were by other headphones. Wearing a $300 green headband is fashionable. The headphones don't even need to be plugged into anything.

Types of Headphones

The A-Zed of Audio

Apple's new OS X launch, part 1

On June 2, Apple announced the latest iteration of its Mac operating system: OS X Yosemite. So, how did Apple come up with the name Yosemite?
