In honour of Earth Day, the Sustainability Office hosted their annual campus clean-up event on April 21. More than 100 employees and students helped to pick up litter from “hotspots” around main campus, collecting over 80 bags of trash.
The Sustainability Action Fund has granted funding for four new projects on campus. These spring 2023 initiatives include installing bird-friendly window decals and using a herbicide-free weed solution to protect campus biodiversity. It will also fund the launch of Waterloo's Free Store and lab coat rental pilot to help reduce waste.

On November 23rd, more than 110 people joined us at Fed Hall for an afternoon of celebration, networking, and community building at our 9th annual Eco Summit. The theme of this year’s Eco Summit was ‘What Can We Do’, placing the focus on how we can work together towards sustainability.
Throughout October, the Sustainability Office and Plant Operations – Environmental Services hosted Zero Waste Month on campus. The university has committed to becoming a zero-waste campus by 2035, and a critical part of meeting that target is engaging our campus community Throughout the month, we ran a series of activities to spread awareness, educate our campus, and encourage participation in our Shift: Zero campaign.
