The Sustainability Office was excited to host Waterloo's second Personal Item Repair Workshop in partnership with Sustainable Campus Initiative, Julie Cook, and Murray Zink. Looking for a meaningful way to take action on our "throwaway culture" and to build community around zero waste practices, Julie Cook, a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Environment, and Murray Zink, a staff member in the Waterloo Professional Development (WatPD) program, contacted the two groups to collaborate.

Eco Summit builds hope for the future

Waterloo’s sixth annual Eco Summit took place on November 20, coinciding with the release of the 2019 Environmental Sustainability Report. The theme, Building Hope, was interwoven with the goals of the Summit to connect with others, celebrate our progress and be inspired to go further.

The month of June marks Bike Month in Waterloo Region each year. Individuals and organizations throughout the Region are challenged by TravelWise to hop on their bikes in celebration of active and sustainable transportation.

Waterloo is thrilled to announce its successful receipt of the Fair Trade Campus Designation, recognizing campus-wide efforts by staff and students to integrate Fairtrade certified coffee, tea, and chocolate options.

The University of Waterloo is excited to announce the launch of a campus-wide bike sharing program that will enable these and more trips across campus and the community.

New secure bike cage coming to campus

We are excited to announce that the construction of a new secure bike cage is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. The bike cage will be located between Environment 3 and Modern Languages and will hold 48 bikes. Space in the bike cage can be reserved for $10+HST/month and will be managed through Parking Services.

Waterloo is excited to announce that it has earned a Silver rating on the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS), a comprehensive reporting framework for post-secondary institutions. The rating recognizes Waterloo’s progress and actions across academics, campus operations, community engagement, and campus planning and governance.
