Douglas Grenkie graduated from Waterloo with a BA in 1965 and obtained an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1968. Called to the Ontario bar in 1970, Doug carries on a general law practice, including family, small claims litigation, commercial, municipal, estate, real estate and criminal law. He was appointed as a Queen’s Counsel in 1980.
Doug has acted as both an Assistant Crown Attorney on a part-time basis, as well as federal prosecutor at the Morrisburg Provincial Court. Since 1978, he has also acted as an inquiry officer for the Ministry of the Attorney General. Doug has appeared before various tribunals in all areas of his practice, including Criminal Inquires Compensation Board, Workers Safety Insurance Board, Landlord and Tenant Board, Social Assistance Review Board, Alcohol and Gaming Board and Ontario Municipal Board.
In 2009, Doug was awarded the Law Society Medal, and in 2012, he received the Diamond Jubilee Medal. In receiving those awards, he was recognized for advancing the law profession and for being a very active member of the Morrisburg community – you might even say a community builder.
He has been a member of the Lions Club for over 40 years; he has served as president of the Dundas County Cancer Society and the Eastern District of the Cancer Society Ontario Division. An active member of the local United Church and Shrine Club, Doug has also been master of the Excelsior Lodge; chair of the Morrisburg Waterfront Committee; secretary treasurer of the Canadian Club; president of the Upper Canada Playhouse, chair of the $5.5 million “Close to Home” fundraising campaign for the Winchester District Memorial Hospital and a fundraiser and advocate for the Cornwall Children’s Treatment Centre. He has served for over 20 years as a board member for Partners for Children in Development.
