Dr. Gary Albach holds a B.Sc. (Hon) from the University of Waterloo and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in physics from the University of British Columbia.
Gary has over 30 years’ experience in forming and managing high technology companies. His expertise ranges from entrepreneurship to executive technology management, marketing, intellectual property commercialization, business development, and global partnerships in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Gary has served as an investor, corporate director, and officer of numerous public and private organizations. These include founder and CEO of the first official spin-off company at the University of British Columbia (UBC), a global semi-conductor and advanced materials company that is now Mattson Canada. He was founding chair of Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies, chair and CEO of Northwest Mettech Corp., CEO of Cogent ChipWare Inc., director of the British Columbia Technical Industries Association, a member of the Advisory Board for the National Research Council's Industrial Research Development Program (IRAP), founding chair of the Canadian Technology Network, and executive director of nanoAlberta. Gary served for two years as UBC’s inaugural Entrepreneur-in-Residence and is currently an Executive-in-Residence in the Sauder School of Business. He retired from public service in 2012 as the founding president and CEO of Alberta Innovates-Technology Futures and is currently active in private investments and charitable foundations.
