Professor Chi-Wang Shu from Brown University will be the speaker in this year’s first Applied and Computational Mathematics Distinguished Lecture. Prof. Shu will give the Distinguished Lecture on Wednesday September 21, 11:30-12:30, in MC 5501, followed by a reception. Everyone is cordially invited!
Prof. Shu is a titan in the development of numerical methods and over his illustrious career has made countless contributions touching broad areas of numerical methods for PDEs. In particular, he has made seminal contributions to the development of methods for dealing with discontinuous flows (e.g., WENO), high-order discontinuous Galerkin methods for conservation laws, and time marching methods.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
