Monday, July 12, 2021

Quantum Benchmark, a Kitchener-based company providing software solutions for error suppression and performance validation in quantum computing hardware, was acquired by Keysight Technologies in May 2021. Quantum Benchmark was founded by Applied Mathematics professor Joseph Emerson. Co-founder Joel Wallman was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Applied Mathematics and the Institute for Quantum Computing before becoming an assistant professor in the department in 2020. The University of Waterloo fosters a one-of-a-kind startup ecosystem grounded in Waterloo’s unique creator-owned intellectual property policy, which grants ownership to the inventor. Congratulations to Joseph and Joel!
