On July 11, the Southern Ontario Microscale Medical Robotics Symposium was held in the event space in E7. The event was co-hosted by the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Systems Design Engineering.

The American Chemical Society announced the launch of a new journal titled “ACS Sustainable Resource Management” on June 13, 2023, with Michael Tam as Deputy Editor. He is excited to shape the direction of this new publication and bring it to the forefront in this emerging field. He will develop strategies to promote awareness of the journal to the academic community.

Inspiring Female Engineers

Meet Melanie Pastorious, a graduate of the University of Waterloo's Chemical Engineering class of 1999. For over two decades, she has been a trailblazer in the male-dominated beer industry, achieving many career successes. Melanie attributes part of her career success to the University of Waterloo's co-op program, which exposed her to diverse engineering jobs in various industries, helping her discover her passion.

In 2020 Jared Cheverie attained an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo and faced the daunting prospect of looking for work during the global pandemic. Cheverie had begun a Master’s program online when he ran across an article titled “Canadian mining companies go begging!” The article chronicled the shortage of employees in Canada’s critical mining sector.

The Process Systems Engineering group (PSE) in the Department of Chemical Engineering recently organized the 2023 Control and Stats Meeting on May 8th and 9th. This event provided an opportunity to showcase the research projects of professors and graduate students from various universities in Ontario and Quebec, focusing on the field of process systems engineering.
