A new study by Rebecca Saari out of the University of Waterloo is underlining how North American air quality could deteriorate by the end of the century unless efforts are taken to fight climate change.
Waterloo graduate student Thiruni Thirimanne a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been awarded the Water Institute’s 2026 John Parish Memorial Graduate Scholarship, recognizing excellence in research on river systems and fluvial geomorphology.

Dr. Reinhold Schuster, a leader in cold-formed steel (CFS) engineering, was awarded the Alfred F. Wong Lifetime Achievement Award for his transformative contributions to CFS education, research, and standards development. His work, including harmonizing North American steel standards and advancing sustainable practices, has shaped the industry and inspired generations of engineers.
