The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is delighted to welcome Leigh McDermott, Director of City Utilities, Integrated Planning & Public Works, in the City of Waterloo as the 2026 Douglas Wright Engineer-in-Residence.
Our Concrete Toboggan Team just wrapped up an incredible week in London, ON at GNCTR 2026! We brought 26 team members to compete from February 4–8 and are thrilled to share our results:
Nandita Basu was interviewed by CBC/Radio-Canada about water conservation in Calgary. They explored current restrictions and how they work, as well as how cities need to adjust in the future.
Dr. Reinhold Schuster, a leader in cold-formed steel (CFS) engineering, was awarded the Alfred F. Wong Lifetime Achievement Award for his transformative contributions to CFS education, research, and standards development. His work, including harmonizing North American steel standards and advancing sustainable practices, has shaped the industry and inspired generations of engineers.
Daniel Rust a fourth year Architectural Engineering student, is offering a $2000 Trades Scholarship to a student pursuing a career in the skilled trades sector. Rust, who is in his final few terms of his Architectural Engineering degree, also founded and operates Capstone Painting.
Did you ever wonder where the water ends up after it goes through the grate? When rain falls and snow melts on the UW campus, most of that water travels through pipes to Laurel Creek.
