Where can your environment degree take you?

Your environment degree can take you in a direction that is uniquely right to you.

It's likely that after graduating, you will end up in a position where your natural abilities meet the skills you've learned along the way and passions you want to pursue. To get there, you will need to figure out how to apply what you’ve learned so far to a job (think about how to articulate the skills you’ve gained through class, volunteering, or a part-time job) and what you're interested in.

Join two ERS alums who took very different paths after graduation and ended up,  nine years later joining forces to launch a business consulting firm.

Sarah Millson didn’t know what she wanted to do when she graduated school. In her own words she bounced around a bit, and ended up building a career in the finance and admin side of the forestry industry where she honed her business skills.

Mariam Gill started out in the environmental sector consulting with oil and gas companies before transitioning into land development consulting where she helped many clients navigate the environmental regulatory landscape and build infrastructure in Edmonton.

One year ago, they joined forces to launch Jupiter Consulting, an industry agnostic business consulting firm. Together they will share what they’ve learned during their varied paths, how they navigated the twists and turns, what they wish they knew when they were students and how you can position yourself for success using your own environment degree.

In her spare time, Mariam likes to travel, stay fit, be an active member of Edmonton’s theatre community, and cuddle with her cats. Mariam loves mentoring those who are just starting off in their careers in the environmental sector and is always open to chatting about career mapping, writing killer cover letters and being your own unique self in the world.
