Ali Arya received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Poly-technique, Iran, in 1989 and his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada, in 2003. He has more than 10 years of industry experience as project manager and software engineer, has worked as instructor and researcher in the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, and joined the School of Information Technology, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, in 2006 where he currently works as Associate Professor of Interactive Multimedia and Design. Ali’s major research areas are Computer Games, Human-Computer Interaction, Educational Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Art.

Associate Professor, Director of the School of Information Technology

Anthony Whitehead is an Associate professor in, and Director of the School of Information Technology at Carleton University. He has a Ph.D in Computer Science at Carleton University. He is also cross-appointed to the School of Computer Science and the current Chair of the Human Computer Interaction Program at Carleton. The program is working on body sensor networks for active play (SNAP) systems. They conduct research in active gaming and sensor systems that facilitate active gaming from the sensor systems all the way through the HCI issues generated by such devices.

Interests:

His research interests can be described as practical applications of machine learning, pattern matching and computer vision as they relate to interactive applications (including games), computer graphics, vision systems and information management.

Chris Joslin

Associate Professor, School of Information Technology

Chris Joslin is currently an Associate Professor at Carleton University. He obtained Master’s degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Bath in the U.K., and in Virtual Reality and Information Systems from the University of Geneva, in Switzerland. He obtained his PhD in Network and Spatial Audio in Collaborative Virtual Environments also from the University of Geneva. During his time in Geneva he worked in the MIRALab group as the main researcher on several key European Union funded projects, which included doing research and development on collaborative virtual environments (VPARK), 3D spatial audio in virtual heritage environments (CAHRISMA), and media adaptation within the MPEG-21 framework (ISIS and DANAE); as well as research demonstrations at technology expositions (IST2000, in France).

In general, the core research topics that I am interested in are as follows:
· 3D Computer Graphics and Animation
· Biomedical Engineering
· Signal Processing and Compression
